Srirangam Srimad Andavan Ashram was established nearly 325 years back for the propagation of the Vasishtadhvaitham philosophy as propagated by Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja and Sri Nikamantha Maha Desika. There have been eleven peetathipathies adorning this Ashramam (including the present Andavan Sri Rangaramanuja Maha Desikan also known as Srimushnam Andavan). The ashramam is engaged in many activities like renovation of old temples, publications of granthas, feeding poor people, offering Annathanam to pilgrims at various temples. In addition to this the ashramam runs Vedapatasalas for impacting Vedic knowledge and preparing Acharyas and Pandits in Vedas, Aaghamam, Purana and Sastras.
The Vedha Padasala activity established in 1968 at Srirangam is imparting Vedic & Sanskrit education along with oriental learnings like sastra, sutras etc. with traditional methods to the poor and needy eligible youth with the purpose of preserving the values of ancient heritage & culture and to impart, to sustain and propagate the study of ancient Vedas and oriental education to the future. HH decided that it is necessary to impart career based education to BC/OBC/MBC/SC/ST students from rural & semi urban areas & hence Srimad Andavan Arts & Science College was founded in Srirangam in 1996.
